Ingredients
  

For the Meat Sauce
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cans crushed tomatoes 28 oz each
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the Béchamel Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For Assembling
  • 12 sheets lasagna noodles cooked
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese grated

Method
 

Prepare the Meat Sauce
  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add chopped onion and garlic to the skillet, cooking until the onion is translucent.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Make the Béchamel Sauce
  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk, continuing to stir until the sauce thickens.
  3. Season with nutmeg and salt, then remove from heat.
Assemble the Lasagna
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by a layer of lasagna noodles, then a layer of béchamel sauce, and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
  3. Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with béchamel sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.
Bake
  1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  3. Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes
