Ingredients

For the Fritters
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples about 2 medium apples
  • 2 cups vegetable oil for frying
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

Prepare the Fritter Batter
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the milk. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until just mixed.
  3. Fold in the diced apples gently until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Fry the Fritters
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer over medium heat. You can test the oil temperature by dropping a small amount of batter in; it should sizzle.
  2. Using a scoop or spoon, carefully drop batter into the hot oil, frying 3-4 fritters at a time until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  3. Remove fritters and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Make the Glaze
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth and pourable.
Glaze the Fritters
  1. Once the fritters are slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over the top of each fritter.
  2. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.
