Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 4 cups water or milk for creamier texture, use milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
For the Topping
  • 2 medium apples peeled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar optional, adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter optional, for richness

Method
 

Prepare the Oatmeal Base
  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the water or milk and salt to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, stir in the rolled oats and reduce the heat to low.
  3. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are soft and creamy.
Prepare the Apple Topping
  1. While the oatmeal is cooking, melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced apples to the skillet and sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar.
  3. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
Combine and Serve
  1. Once the oatmeal is cooked, remove from heat and let sit for a minute.
  2. Spoon the oatmeal into bowls and top with the warm apple mixture.
