  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and add thinly sliced onions. Cook for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  3. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, caramelized onions (reserve some for topping), breadcrumbs, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Shape the mixture into a loaf in the prepared baking dish. Top with shredded cheese.
  5. Bake for about 45 minutes until cooked through. In the last few minutes of baking, add more cheese if desired.
  6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle French fried onions on top; bake for an additional five minutes.
