  • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 6 slices sourdough or Italian bread
  • 2 tbsp butter (for greasing and sautéing)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, melt 1 tbsp of butter over medium heat. Sauté the onions and bell peppers for about 5 minutes until softened. Set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, cook the beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder for about 3 minutes until browned.
  4. Layer half the bread in the prepared dish. Top with half the sautéed veggies, half the beef, and half the provolone cheese. Repeat layers.
  5. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden brown.
